Finding, Developing, and Sharing Courses and Learning Objects

Pre-Conference Workshop, Conducted by NROC

This workshop will be lead by NROC staff and expert NROC members on Wednesday, June 4th, 2008 from 1:00pm - 4:40pm MST on the UVSC campus.

Tentative outline
  1. Finding and using LOs and courses (1:00pm - 2:00pm)
    • What’s a good learning object (Showing examples of good LOs, what
    • makes them good)
    • What makes a good online course? (Showing examples and discussing
    • what makes them good)
    • How to use other people’s LOs in your courses (Different ways you can
    • find and use 3rd party content)
  2. Developing LOs and courses (2:15pm - 3:15pm)
    • Guidelines for making LOs (Describe the use guidelines and examples)
    • Attaching metadata to learning objects (Describe a set of basic
    • categories to use)
  3. Swapping LOs and courses (3:30pm - 4:30pm)
    • Sharing and trading LOs (30 minutes, describing how to set up a
    • method for swapping courses, describe NROC model)
    • Course Swap Meet (30 minutes, networking, making connections with
    • people to follow up with to share content)

Attendance is limited to 40 participants. Participants are encouraged to bring their own laptop for hands-on portions.
